Parent Month, kicked off to a start this year, under the theme Parenting the Right Way: Read to your Child Every Day. The launch, held at Jamaica House on October 30, 2009, saw the attendance of the Spanish Jamaican Foundation along with other sponsors, Mother’s and the Coalition for Better Parenting, marking the commitment and involvement of all to ensuring the success of the initiative.As was done in year 2008, the Ministry of Education again sought to this year, collaborate with the Spanish Jamaican Foundation in recognizing the parents who have done an outstanding job in raising their children.

The selection process involved choosing two parents from each of the six regions who fit the criteria set by the Ministry. Events were held in RIU Ocho Rios and Bahia Prinicipe on the 26th of November, to honour these parents, who have not only done a remarkable job for themselves as parents, but have contributed positively to the country’s future, as those children will indeed be future leaders of Jamaica.

Iberostar, Bahia Principe, RIU Ocho Rios, RIU Negril and Grand Palladium Resorts were among those who contributed to the Parent Month initiative, by affording the twelve parents and their families, complimentary weekend stays at their hotels.
